JVC MX-GB5 Compact Audio System with 3-Disc CD Carousel

JVC MX-GB5 Compact Audio System with 3-Disc CD Carousel Review

JVC MX-GB5 Compact Audio System with 3-Disc CD Carousel Feature

  • 460-watt compact audio system with 3-disc CD changer, AM/FM tuner, and dual cassette deck
  • Plays CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 formats
  • Play exchange and CD synchro recording
  • Programmable wakeup and sleep timer; front auxiliary input and headphone jack
  • Two 160-watt subwoofers and two 70-watt main speakers with 6.31-inch cone woofers, 2-inch cone midranges, and 0.81-inch cone tweeters
This strikingly modern audio system (think Robocop) is ideal for an afternoon in the backyard, or even a night on the sofa. Unlike many mini systems, the MX-GB5 packs plenty of power, with 460 total watts split among two G-Max Hyper Power-Drive subwoofers (160 watts x 2) and two main speakers (70 watts x 2). The subwoofers give the unit punching bass, which is further amplified by the RhythMax tone booster, the Extended Super Bass option, and the trio of live surround modes (dance club, hall, and stadium). Also included are several individual music modes--one each for pop, rock, and classic, plus three custom choices.

The system holds up to three CD in its rotating carousel and is compatible with CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 formats. However, it also records music on its dual cassette deck with full-logic controls, and also plays the radio on its AM/FM tuner with 45 total presets (30 FM and 15 AM). The cassette deck includes CD synchro recording, which synchronizes the cassette deck and CD player to ensure that recording starts at the exact same moment as playback, along with the convenience of play exchange, which ensures that the current CD continues playing even while the listener adds new ones to the carousel. Other user favorites include a programmable wakeup and sleep timer; a demo mode; Compu play; continuous, random, and repeat play for one or all three discs; and a rotary encoder volume control. Signal transfer is coordinated by the 1-bit dual DAC.

The system is designed as a standalone unit, though it does include a front auxiliary input and a headphone jack.

Amazon.com Product Description The Denon D-M33S CD/AM/FM Micro System delivers the natural, richly detailed sound that listeners normally expect from high-end individual components, but in a single compact package. The difference lies in the system's high-quality parts and construction. Building on the basic design of Denon's critically acclaimed D-M31 and D-M30 units, the system employs capacitors developed for high-quality audio within its power amp circuitry, along with Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converters to ensure maximum clarity from your CDs. In addition, Denon collaborated with European sound designers and technicians to develop a refined speaker system that makes CDs, MP3s, and WMA files (recorded on CD-R or CD-RW media) sound terrific.

Each stereo speaker features a 4.75-inch woofer with an inverted-profile double-layer cone along with a 1-inch soft dome tweeter. The one-piece woofer design doesn't use a center cap, thus providing greater rigidity across the bass cone's surface. And thanks to the speakers' detailed "finite element analysis," which ensures optimum thickness in the sub-cone and a superior connection between the main cone and voice coil, the audio is consistently stable and rich. The speaker cabinets, meanwhile, are constructed of medium-density fiberboard and optimized through laser-scan measurements. Listeners will also appreciate the five-way binding post terminals, which ensure a high-quality signal transfer. And the speaker's European-style wood grain finish make the system an elegant addition to your office or den.

In addition to the front-loading CD player, the D-M33S also includes a digital AM/FM tuner with 40 station presets, making it easy to switch to your favorite program in less than a second. Listeners can also custom name each preset station using up to eight characters. Plus, the tuner is capable of receiving Radio Data Service (RDS) broadcasts, with text display of any radio text offered by RDS stations. Additional features include a built-in clock with several timer functions; Super Dynamic Bass (SDB) circuitry that boosts the low frequencies for a fuller overall sound; two sets of analog stereo inputs and outputs for connecting such components as an external tape deck or a CD recorder; a subwoofer preamp output; and an optical digital output.

The D-M33S's main unit measures 8.25 by 3.75 by 14 inches (W x H x D), while the speakers measure 5.56 by 7.5 by 9.81 inches each. The system is also backed by a one-year warranty.

  • Optical digital-audio and minidisc/auxiliary outputs

JVC's top-of-the-line FS-SD1000 executive microsystem contains a unique satellite-subwoofer pairing built on a radical speaker design for an expanded sound field and improved sound definition--the kind of sound that exceeds what you'd expect from the unit's size and shape. Housed inside cylindrical, pole-shaped aluminum enclosures are extremely slim speakers, which provide an extended high-frequency response and rich ambience. The pole-shaped speakers make use of innovative materials and include high-performance magnets for more audio impact. The FS-SD1000 also boasts a 60-watt powered subwoofer for deep bass. The sub uses a 6.28-inch woofer, an edgewise-wound eight-layer voice coil, and volume control with phase switch.

Among the FS-SD1000's other attractions are CD-R/CD-RW playback, a motor-driven sliding CD door with CD illumination, an optical digital-audio output, 20-track programming, and a digital tuner with 15 AM and 30 FM presets. Cool Looks and Great Sound! The FS-SD1000 combines high sound quality and a stylish exterior. Housed inside round aluminum enclosures are extremely slim direct-drive stick speakers, delivering an exceptionally wide sound field, as well as pinpoint definition - the kind of sound you can't imagine from it's looks. The accompanying powered subwoofer makes sure you'll also get the bass response you crave, ensuring this beauty sounds as good as it looks.
